This year we’re celebrating GlobalSign’s 25th anniversary since its founding in 1996. Each month in 2021, we’ll be introducing you to a member of the GlobalSign team – representing countries from all over the globe, departments from Product Management to Compliance to Customer Support, and with years of service from one to 25…these are the people working hard behind the scenes to bring industry-leading PKI and identity solutions to the world.
Today we are excited to feature a member of our Portsmouth, NH team, Program Manager Julie Olson!
GS: What is your role here at GlobalSign?
JO: I’m a Program/Project Manager. One of my core responsibilities is ensuring our root certificates are embedded in all of the browser root stores and platforms.
GS: How long have you worked for GlobalSign?
JO: I’ll be celebrating 4 years in October!
GS: Where do you call home?
JO: I work out of the Portsmouth, New Hampshire office, and live in a middle-sized town about 20 minutes away.
GS: What is the best part of your job?
JO: The variety of projects and the people I work with!
GS: How would you describe the GlobalSign culture in one word?
JO: Friendly
GS: What makes GlobalSign unique?
JO: GlobalSign is a global company, but it’s run like a small business. Everyone is very friendly and supportive and eager to push the company forward. GlobalSign is also one of the most compassionate companies I’ve ever worked at, treating its employees and customers well.
GS: Is there a year that stands out in your mind from your tenure at GlobalSign?
JO: 2020 is one to remember!
GS: Can you share one of your most memorable moments from that year?
JO: Watching the company come together and support one another through a truly unique point in GlobalSign’s history, enabling all employees to work safely and effectively from home.
GS: What would you consider your biggest work accomplishment so far?
JO: Rolling out a new version of our Certificate Inventory Tool (CIT), and then getting it to a place where Atlas customers can use it to provision certificates through its GUI.
GS: There have been plenty of changes in the CA and identity services industry over the course of the last two-and-a-half decades. What’s one of the most significant changes you’ve witnessed during your time with the company?
JO: I would say watching the maximum validity for public TLS certificates be reduced from 825 down to currently 397 days.
GS: What security tip have you learned since working at GlobalSign that you didn’t know before you started?
JO: Ensuring that little padlock is on every website I visit!
GS: What’s something you’re working on right now that you can’t wait to share with others?
JO: The team is working on some exciting updates to our certificate discovery offerings. I can’t wait for everyone to see it when it's released!
GS: What makes you most excited about the future of tech/security?
JO: I’m very excited for thumbprint scanners to replace passwords (and remembering passwords…).
GS: What does GlobalSign’s 25th anniversary mean to you?
JO: GlobalSign is a company that’s built to last. It’s weathered the pandemic admirably. I look forward to what the next 25 years brings!
Cheers to that! Thanks for taking the time to chat, Julie, and for all of the work you do to make our GlobalSign products the best they can be.
