What’s Changing?
Effective 15th June 2025, the maximum validity period for Code Signing Certificates will be reduced from 39 Months to 460 days.
From 28th Feb 2025, GlobalSign will stop issuing 2-Year and 3-Year Code Signing Certificates and all the new Code Signing Certificates will be subject to a validity of 460 days only.
Why This Change?
Inline with the CA/B forum, GlobalSign is implementing this change to enhance security by shortening the lifespan of certificates. This reduction minimizes the window of exposure to potential vulnerabilities that may arise from outdated or compromised certificates. The benefits of this change include:
Enhanced Security: Shorter validity periods allow for quicker updates and revocations of certificates, minimizing potential risks to your software and users.
Streamlined Compliance: Shorter periods ensure your certificates reflect the latest security standards, keeping your software aligned with industry best practices. More frequent renewals help you stay ahead of compliance requirements, reducing the risk of non-compliance.
How Does This Affect You?
New and Renewed Certificates: From 28th Feb 2025, all newly issued GlobalSign Code Signing Certificates will be subject to a new Maximum validity limit of 460 days.
Existing Certificates: Current Code Signing Certificates that have a validity of 39 months will remain valid until their expiration date. Upon renewal, these certificates will need to comply with the new 460-day validity standard after 15th June 2025 as per the CA/B forum guidelines.
Reissuances: Code Signing Certificates, issued on or before February 28, 2025, with a validity period of 3 years or 2 years, can be reissued while maintaining their existing validity until May 30, 2025. After this date, any reissuances will need to align with the new validity period of 460 days, in accordance CA/B forum guidelines.
